Embracing the Snug

Traditionally a small room off the kitchen or dining room (or a private room at a pub), the snug is a cozy retreat to connect with family or to curl up by the fire with the proverbial good book.

A mix of big box, vintage, and handmade pieces make up this particular snug. Anthropologie table, Pottery Barn settee, Jenni Kayne sheepskin, CB2 rug and pillow, Wisteria ottoman.

Central to the atmosphere of this pint-sized room is the Lopi brand wood stove. It was important to the clients to install an actual wood-burning appliance crafted locally to their Pacific Northwest home.

He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

A concrete column (it’s actually a patio umbrella stand) displays a modern bust statue from CB2. She is wearing a vintage folding ruler acquired on the Portobello Road in 1980s London exemplifying the collected look and feel of the room.

Banq On It

A nook for all seasons, this intimate spot changes personalities throughout the day.

It’s a place for pastries, a window bay view out to the garden, a niche for an afternoon nosh, and a fur-lined banquette for time spent with a book or laptop.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of infusing a space with flowers, fruit, and an occasional kitty visit.

The refined beauty of this spot came together from a wide range of sources: Libeco pillow (wide-striped), custom Ethan Allen pillow (narrow-striped), Luxury Cowhides lumbar pillow, Jenni Kayne sheepskin, and a Taman VanScoy artwork.

Some highlights of the space include a Rejuvenation basket, Chule wool throw, CB2 meditation pillow, and a T.J. Anderson wooden bowl.

We shape our homes and then our homes shape us.

The bookcase was curated with book titles that double as intentions for the yogi in residence alongside other mood-setting objects like sage to support her practice.

Surprise Zen

Originally a no man’s land for abandoned toys and items headed to Goodwill, this corner yearned to be a yoga studio.

Together, the yogi of the house and I sourced items large and small to assemble a room that echoed the same calm neutral layered aesthetic of the rest of the home.

Some items were sourced straight from other rooms in the house resulting in a space that felt like home at once.
